Post-Conference Field Trip- Farms of the Fraser River Delta - sponsored by BC Ministry of Agriculture Business Risk Management Branch Randhawa Farms Ltd., Delta BC: The Randhawa Farm is situated near the unique Burns Bog natural area. The Burns Bog is the largest domed peat bog on the west coast of North America. It covers an area of about 40 square kilometers about 25 km southeast of downtown Vancouver. Growing blueberries here presents unique challenges to producers. Find out what they are and how Bob Randhawa manages his farm risk. Mayberry Farms Ltd., Richmond BC: The May family owns a large amount of agricultural land in Richmond. Several brothers in the family spearhead the cranberry harvest each year. Who better to show us around than a family that’s been farming in Richmond for 100 years? The farms ships cranberries to Ocean Spray, a grower-owned Cooperative founded 80 years ago and, here in Canada supplied by more than 90 growers located in parts of British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. |
