The Waterloo Research Institute in Insurance, Securities and Quantitative Finance, University of Waterloo announces: Call for Paper submissions for the Second International Agricultural Risk, Finance, and Insurance Conference (IARFIC) to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on June 16-18, 2013.

IARFIC is a unique venue that brings together those in the agricultural sector, from Academia, Government, Private Sector, Stakeholders, NGO's, and others. The theme of the conference is "Agricultural Risk, Finance, Insurance and Actuarial Science". The conference will include a dynamic program with high quality speakers focusing on innovative research, policy discussions, and business challenges and successes. The conference will also feature five unique plenary sessions, with representation from Academia, Government, the Private Sector, Stakeholders, NGO's, and others covering very important and timely topics in an effort to maintain a strong agricultural sector and improve global food security.

Plenary Session Topics

  1. The role of climate change and the impact on agricultural risk management and insurance.
  2. Livestock insurance: successes and challenges.
  3. Crop insurance: successes and challenges.
  4. Building financial capital in agricultural insurance markets.
  5. Agricultural insurance ratemaking: actuarially sound and long term sustainability.
